“Will I See You in September?”
Those anxious to experience Chapterhouse live for the first time (or for the first time in a long time) will have to wait a little longer. Hey… if you could wait 14 years, what’s a few months?
Yes, the infamous volcano, that ash-y mother near Eyjafjalla Glacier in South Iceland, is to blame for further disappointment in the musical world. Due to travel delays and visa issues, the legendary British band has had to postpone their North American tour.
The band released a statement on their official website, a detailed explanation that outlines Stephen Patman’s misfortune following their Japanese tour dates: flight delays left Patman, Chapterhouse cornerstone, unable to apply for an artist visa in time to commit to planned May dates.
Still, Chapterhouse emphasizes that their North American tour has only been postponed and not cancelled. They look to re-schedule for the second half of September as Ashley Bates’ alternate project, Tunng, provides further schedule conflicts. Fans who purchased tickets for the May shows will be able to use them for the projected dates, which the band plans to confirm in the weeks to come.
Rare Chapterhouse Tour Makes U.S. Stops
In what is described as a “one off deal“, Chapterhouse will tour the U.S. as part of a 2010 tour that will include stops in the U.K. and Japan. The rare tour comes in response to a sold-out show last November at ICA in London; witnessing the long-reaching impact their music has on fans, the legendary band “happily agreed” to share more this spring.
Though only releasing two albums, Chapterhouse is highly revered as one of the cornerstones of the 90′s shoegaze scene. Their music’s layered ambience influenced other bands such as Slowdive and Lush and reached fame contemporaneously with the likes of My Bloody Valentine.
In addition to the highly-anticipated performances, Chapterhouse’s tour will feature famed electro-musician/producer Ulrich Schnauss who will not only open for the band, but join them onstage for several performances.
Although the U.S. will see most of the tour dates, the entire tour itself will have minimal stops. Chapterhouse encourages fans to choose the closest venue and join them for what may be the last chance to see them perform live.
